SPRING FLING Sunday, April 4
Race at HoliMont to Benefit the Phoenix Adaptive Program
By Gerlind Dubey
What was once classified as the “Bartenders Race” a fun race for townies to relax after a exhausting season of tending to the needs of others has a whole new meaning.
Created and organized by HoliMont Masters and Niagara Adult Racing clubs and now in its second year as the Spring Fling NAR Race annual event will raise funds for the Phoenix Adaptive Program. The race takes place Sunday April 4th at HoliMont.
Along with the crew of hard core racers competing in the serious race there will be a fun run race where those not as skilled in their turns will have the opportunity to cavort and have a few laughs. The Giant Slalom race, which is in a team format of five people, one must be female, will be held on Fall Line, starting at 11:30 AM. Adaptive Skiers from the Phoenix program will precede the race and the Fun Run Race is slated to begin at 10AM.
Last year fourteen teams sponsored by area establishments raced for the cause. The highly competitive race brought skiers from Canada and the US, including 2 ex-world cup racers., The Birdwalk Restaurant team won the race and bragging rights. The No Name team finished last and vowed to return to defend the title.
Spring Fling 2008 raised over $2000 to benefit the Phoenix Adaptive Skiing Program, which promotes skiing for children who otherwise would not be able to enjoy a day on the hill through their “Dick Freeman Outreach” program.
The Phoenix Program started in 1996 with three students and three instructors along with a lot of enthusiasm. The Phoenix program has grown and evolved into a viable and well respected adaptive ski program, which offers ski instruction and guidance to individuals with special needs and unique challenges, mental and physical.

HoliMont Local’s Appreciation Day is Friday, April 10th! Spring Skiing at HoliMont
Ah, gotta love this weather! The temps are warm, the sky is blue, and the slopes are calling your name. HoliMont plans to be open until Easter Sunday.
So there is no reason whatsoever to pack away the ski gear before its time. Just because the calendar says that winter is over doesn’t mean that you have to stop skiing. Actually, spring is a great time for skiers/boarders and for many nothing beats spring conditions.
It is even possible to get sunburn while on the slopes so make sure you come prepared with sunscreen and good sunglasses that will protect your eyes.
Head to HoliMont today, Spring weekday rates are now in effect! $27 for Adults, and $20 for Juniors. Stay tuned to www.holimont.com and 1-877-SKI-HOLI for up-to-date conditions and information.
