SPECIAL SHORTS (11/14/2008)
By Gerlind Dubey

IT’S SNOWTIME FOLKS!

Last Weeks unseasonal warm weather kept both Holiday Valleys’ Double Black Diamond and Elkdale golf courses busy, but now the flags are gone and the greens protect from winters abuse. Things are really gearing up for a sensational snowsports season. Mother Nature has already blessed us with a preview of the white stuff with promises of much more on the way.

Snow will certainly augment the annual onset of the season; the THANKSJIBBING RAIL JAM, Friday, November 28; held at the base of Mardi Gras Rail Park at Holiday Valley. The Jam is in the pudding—FREE to all skiing and boarding entrants, helmets are required. Registration is at 10:30, the Jam starts at noon. Then on Saturday the snow comes to the village. The Ski Shops of Ellicottville along with Holiday Valley’s Snow Sports coordinator Pat Morgan are planning to put on their 1ST annual snowboard/ snow sports season kick off event by bringing the slopes to the village. The event is the Ellicottville Rail Contest happening Saturday, Nov 29, in the Parking lot behind Balloons Restaurant!

IT’S THE CHRISTMAS GALA OF THE SEASON!

A sit down dinner catered by Dina’s offers five scrumptious entrées; choices are Rosemary Braised Lamb Shanks. Cornish Game Hen stuffed with apple, cranberries, and nuts. Grilled Mahi Mahi served over Parmesan Risotto with Mango Sauce, Beef Bourguignon, and a vegetarian Sun dried Tomato Pesto Pasta served with marinated grilled vegetables followed by a delectable dessert table.

A trip to Randolph to see my new vet Dr. Inkley proved beneficial in more ways than one. At INKLEY’S ANGUS HILL FARM Adjacent to the clinic is a retail beef market where they sell all natural-Angus Beef that is raised at the farm...I came home with a couple of perfectly marbled steaks and a chuck roast. I haven’t grilled the steaks yet but the pot roast was to die for delicious.

I JUST HAVE TO PASSS THIS EMAIL ON TO MY READERS
Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test with which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don’t have to pass a urine test.

Shouldn’t one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their butt, doing drugs, while I work. . . . Can you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check? I guess we could title that program, "Urine or your Not"
