GOIN’ BALD FOR BUCKS
Spaghetti, Sparring & Shaving

The Knockout Factory in Salamanca hosted “Spaghetti, Sparring & Shaving” an Open House spaghetti dinner and sparring demonstration on Tuesday, March 31st. This family oriented event began when Knockout Factory owner Mike “Snake” Tome’s mother was diagnosed with cancer, promising to cut off his hair in support of her struggle. Mike, who hasn’t had a hair cut in 25 years and at one time was widely known for his unique hairstyles enlisted other family members; brothers, Steve and Kerry, friends and several students to join his pledge. They then found out about the “Goin’Bald for Bucks” Program, and decided to join the program, which raises money for the Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Several WNY area local gyms and fighters have pledged allegiance and plan on attending future events to provide good old fashioned entertainment, and show various self defense techniques.

People attending learned some moves and while watching fighters & coaches work out to the soothing background music from local DJ, PM Studios!

There was also a 50/50 drawing and Chinese Auction held to support local fighter Carl Kettle, who was seriously hurt in a work accident and is currently going through rehabilitation

The night ended with a group of participants shaving their noggins in support of those who have lost their hair to Cancer. All proceeds will benefit “Goin’ Bald for Bucks.”

Special guests included NAAFS 155lb Championship Contender Cage fighter and Jamestown Police Officer Jay Wadsworth, who demonstrated some sparring techniques and also signed on for a buzz cut, as did Ohio Professional MMA Fighter Mike Musselwhite.

Goin’ Bald For Bucks” is a fundraiser for Roswell Park to benefit groundbreaking research and compassionate care programs at Roswell Park through the month of May. Participants collect pledge donations to Roswell Park Cancer Institute in return for shaving their heads or cutting their hair. Local cosmetology students handle shaving and cutting hair in a public forum n the day of the event. Participants can donate their hair to Locks of Love when cutting 10 inches or more. Adult participants, often teachers and administrators serve as inspiration to students eager to make a difference.

Any high school or organization that wants to show its support of cancer patients can contact Misha Russo at 716-845-8164 or email misharusso@roswellpark.org.
