May 16 and 17 2009-Save the Date

In May 2008, CCAC debuted Routes to Art, 33 artists opened their studios to the public. The tour brought hundreds of visitors to see and purchase artwork throughout Cattaraugus County and Northern Pennsylvania. Anne Conroy Baitor, Executive Director of the Cattaraugus County Arts Council and coordinator of the RTA stated that “According to New York State tracking figures, RTA generated almost $500,000 in one weekend, with income continuing throughout the year through repeat visits and commissions.”

The overwhelming success of the 2008 Routes to Art has many new artists joining the trail. This year 42 artists will showcase their studios and artwork. The RTA tour will host artisans working in clay, jewelry, beadwork, photography, fabric, basket making, oils, acrylics, and watercolors. This year’s Routes to Art open studio weekend will be enhanced with the participation of the eleven artists and artisans from the Seneca Nation of Indians; introducing their culture and heritage through traditional and contemporary Native American arts.
