Registration Still Open for Art Workshops
Registrations are still being accepted for art workshops at the Memorial Library of Little Valley. Supported by a small grant from the Cattaraugus County Arts Council, the Library will sponsor workshops for both adults and children.
The grant is funded in part by the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Regrant Program administered by the Cattaraugus County Arts Council.
The program, Soar with AIR (Artist in Residence), is being instructed by Cathy Lacy, a retired art teacher from the Salamanca City School District.
The first adult workshop, which began February 19, introduced participants to the art of Pysanky (Ukrainian egg painting).
The remaining adult workshops will include Scherenschnitte (German Paper Cutting - March 4), and Copper Enameling (March 19). Workshops begin at 6:00 p.m. in the new Community Room at the Library.
Workshops for children include Copper Enameling (March 11, 6:00 p.m.), the construction of a Medieval Castle (April 4, 10:00 a.m.), and two separate sessions of Painting Techniques of the Masters (April 25 and May 2, both at 10:00 a.m.).
Each workshop will begin with an explanation about the background of the art form, including cultural and historical influences.
No special training, equipment or supplies are required. A nominal fee for materials will be charged for adults, but the children’s workshops are free.
At the conclusion of the workshops (late spring), the Library will host a reception and exhibit, open to the public.
For more information and to sign up, interested parties should contact the Library at 938-6301, or stop in during regular library hours.
