COUNT DOWN TO THE PENGUIN PADDLE AT HOLIDAY VALLEY

The Penguin Paddle team is busy getting ready for the 21st Annual Event being held Saturday February 21st. Donations for the Auction are coming in and the variety of items is outstanding. We have been receiving several donations for the Live auction. One of the items is an Artist Proof of the Adelie Penquins.donated by Roger Tory Peterson Museum in Jamestown, NY. Anyone interested in donating an item may contact Pam Krieger Auction Chairman by calling the Adaptive line at 699 3405 or stop by the Adaptive Building next to Tannenbaum lodge and speak to any of our instructors. You can also contact her at HVLASP@juno.com and she will be happy to return your message.

The raffle tickets are being sold by the LASP instructors and can be purchased at the LASP building. They will also be sold the day of the Paddle. The tickets are selling for $5.00 each or 6 for $25.00.

The Big Penguins Jack Barclay and Brian Smith have been hard at work selling buttons on the hill. Our instructors as well as the Safety Patrol are also selling them. They have become quite a collector’s item.

Join in the slider races, which are held at 1:30. Registration is at Creekside from 8:30 – 12:30, and at Yodeler from 9:00 –1:00. Remember, the slider races are not just for the little kids, “big” kids can also participate. You have to go to the Registration Table, which is located at the bottom of Yodeler lodge. You must sign a waiver and buy a black garbage bag for $1.00. The races have been broken down into smaller groups for safety purposes. Categories will include: ages 4, 5 & 6, 7 & 8, 9 & 10, 11 & 12, 13 & 14, 15-20 & over. Races will be held on the lower part of Yodeler. Participants will start to line up by 1:15. Look for the LASP instructors who will be holding signs according to age
groups. Once everyone is lined up, the sliders will proceed up the hill and slide down like a P E N G U I N!

Don’t forget to bring your appetite for the Buffet luncheon from 11:30 – 1:15. For a $5.00 donation you receive a hot dog or sausage, peppers and onions, potato salad, cookie or brownie, can of pop and snack. Not bad for $5.00! The Food tent is located at the bottom of Yodeler. Stop by the Beverage table and enjoy a beer or a glass of wine with Dan Etenger. He has been our Beverage chairman for the last 10 years and has does a fantastic job.

We are happy to have the “The Voice of Ellicottville” Bob McCarthy to announce the activities and keep the festivities going. A big thank you to Bob for his continued support and to Holiday Valley for their assistance in this annual event.

The Penguin Paddle is the major source of funding for the Lounsbury Program. This program provides ski instruction to people with disabilities. Your contribution not only provides a great afternoon of fun and entertainment, it also supports a great cause. Please come and join us on Saturday, February 21st.

Now all we need is a sunny day and all the wonderful people who have supported the Penguin Paddle the last 20 years. See you in a garbage bag on Saturday, February 23rd from 11:30 to 3:00.
