Local Student Wins Essay Contest
(11/28/2008) By ECS Reporter Josh Bower

Last Friday afternoon, Dennis Davis, a seventh grader at Ellicottville Central School, was honored for his participation in an essay contest sponsored by the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Make-A-Wish Foundation has helped children with life-threatening medical conditions by granting their wishes since 1980. Dennis’ essay was among 600 entries, and was awarded 1st prize.

This is a great accomplishment for the young man, and we are very proud of him. When asked what he thought about winning, Davis said

“I was pretty astonished that I won out of 600 people!”

“The Wish A Wish Kid”
An Award Winning Essay by: Dennis Davies III

Somewhere in America there is a sick child that has a wish or a dream. What if they had the opportunity to get their wish granted? How do you think that child would feel if that wish was granted or if their dream came true? I think they would feel a lot more than one emotion. With the help of the Make a Wish Foundation the child could feel these emotions.

One of the emotions that the make a wish child might feel would be happiness. Another emotion that the child might feel would be joy. Overall, the child could feel like a normal kid that is not sick. Taking the child’s mind off their illness, for even a little while, could give them the strength to get through their sickness. The Make a Wish Foundation enables sick kids all over the country to feel these emotions. The children that the foundation helps will remember the feeling of the emotion on the day they got their wishes granted. The parents of the sick children will feel better that there are some people who care about their sick children as much as they do. That is what makes the Make a Wish Foundation so special.

In conclusion, any child that had their wish granted by Make a Wish Foundation would feel lots of emotions. They would feel happiness, joy, and like a normal kid. These emotions could make them feel stronger, happier, and healthier. They would know that someone actually cared about them besides their family. Make a Wish is one of the most caring organizations in the United States today. I hope that they can always help sick kids with there dreams.
