Holiday Valley Resort to Open Thursday,
Nov. 20, 2008
Holiday Valley’s President, Dennis Eshbaugh, announced today that the 2008-09 winter season will begin at 9 AM on Thursday, November 20. The 28” snowfall the resort received on Sunday/Monday coupled with good snowmaking temperatures will allow the resort to open a week earlier than the target date of November 28. This date is the third earliest opening in Holiday Valley’s 51 year history!
The Yodeler Quad Chairlift and 6 slopes will be open from 9 AM to 10 PM on Thursday. Skiers and snowboarders will be able to choose from one beginner trail, two intermediate trails and three expert trails. The resort expects to open additional lifts and slopes by the weekend.
Snowmaking operations will begin Tuesday evening and will operate as temperatures permit. Grooming has been underway since Monday to pack the snow and create a base.
According to Mr. Eshbaugh, “Sunday’s snowstorm and our early opening is a great way to start off the season. Our skiers and riders are really excited about the year. Despite the challenging economic atmosphere, we’ve seen strong pre-season sales. Our central location to many major metropolitan areas, the size of the resort and the charming Village of Ellicottville makes us a good value for families’ winter getaways this year.” |
