Ellicottville Fall Festival 2008
By Jim Gill [visit the official site]
As Mother Nature prepares to hibernate she leaves us with a spectacular display in Ellicottville, shorter days and cooler nights prepare the foliage leaving our surrounding hills ablaze in colorful gold, orange, red and yellow reflecting the warmth of our friendly community. Before the fall winds sweep the branches clean, shutters will be clicking in rapid fire as lovers of nature capture the moment too quickly gone.
The surrounding mountains in all their color provide a backdrop second to non as the Town and Village of Ellicottville welcome the thousands of visitors to the Chamber of Commerce 33rd annual Fall Festival. From its humble beginning in 1975 with several thousand guests, the festival has grown to the point thousands of people in the United States and Canada travel to our small community to enjoy the hospitality, the area, and all the festival has to offer, both in the downtown area and Holiday Valley Resort. Brochures showing the many places of interest and activities in the area are available in the lobby of the Visitors Center on West Washington Street.
With all vendor spaces sold out in the downtown area and the full schedule at Holiday Valley Resort, this year’s event promises to be one of the best ever. The weekend’s music lineup is packed with some of Ellicottville’s most popular groups, hot spots on the music scene will be Rocktoberfest under the big tent in the Balloons parking lot, Holiday Valley and The Depot.
One of many annual Fall Festival highlights is the chairlift ride on the Mardi Gras Xpress at Holiday Valley; upon leaving the lift visitors will be treated to a spectacular view of fall colors. On top of Mardi Gras enjoy a Mountain Top Cookout while listening to great entertainment.
Enjoy and respect our community, mark a date on your calendar to return and most of all drive safely.
P.S. The locals are the ones with a smile on their faces.
