May 16-17, 2009 Set for Second Annual Routes to Art Weekend
2009 Artist Open Studio Tour to Feature
Regional Fine Artists and Artisans

Visit www.routestoart.com

In May of 2008, the Cattaraugus County Arts Council (CCAC) launched Routes to Art (RTA), a premier open artist studio tour. Visitors from as far away as Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Rochester and Toronto visited artist studios all over Cattaraugus County and Northern Pennsylvania to view and purchase artwork as well as see artists at work in their home environments. The 2009 Routes to Art open studio tour will also feature the addition of more than twenty Native American artists and artisans from the Seneca Nation of Indians.

CCAC’s Executive Director Anne Conroy-Baiter says planning is well underway for Routes to Art 2009. “We’re in the midst of recruiting our 2009 artists and are excited about both our returning artists and rookies. Plus, the addition of the Seneca Nation artists and artisans promises to add a layer of cultural richness and depth to the overall program. In the meantime, anyone can check out the RTA website, www.routestoart.com. It’s a beautiful website with artist portfolios, driving directions, links to Google maps, and general program information. All RTA artists are available by appointment throughout the year which can make holiday shopping this year a lot more creative.”

Routes to Art is produced by the Cattaraugus County Arts Council with funding from the Cultural Tourism Initiative, a project of the Arts and Business Council of New York and the New York State Council on the Arts. Locally the project is supported by multiple business sponsors. Additional funding is provided by Cattaraugus County as well as a special New York State grant for environmental education, cultural and recreational programs facilitated by Assemblyman Joseph Giglio.

For information about CCAC, call 716-372-7455 or email artscouncil@verizon.net. Artists interested in applying for RTA do not need to have a studio of their own, but do need to either live in Cattaraugus County, Northern Pennsylvania, or be an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians. For more information or questions about Routes to Art or the Cattaraugus County Arts Council, go to www.myartscouncil.net, email the CCAC at artscouncil@verizon.net or call 716-372-7455. Applications at available at www.routestoart.com.
