Horse Resource

A group of horse lovers in WNY has created ‘HORSE RESOURCE’ to connect people and horses in need. Through their database of horse friendly folks the group networks their collective resources to create solutions to the challenges faced by horse owners struggling to care for their horses.

Let’s face it this is a difficult time in most average American households, fuel and energy prices have caused most of us to think hard and twice about how we live. When one can barely feed his family something has to give! Such is the case of many horse owners in crises.

Horse Resource is a Data Base created by Anne Northrup and Annie Widger. Both women are active horsewomen who were compelled to help horse owners in need. The saga started just a couple of weeks ago when, ironically, both received phone calls the same day from two different desperate horse owners, who for various economic reasons could no longer afford to feed or house their beloved steeds. The horse owners requested aide in helping to place the horse’s with viable caring owners.

This is only the beginning of a beautiful story, within days of receiving these troublesome calls, the two women brainstormed as to how to help local horse owners; a data base was created a logo designed and T-shirts were printed, (thanks to Anne’s artistic sister Nina) ready for the Cattaraugus County Fair, the two women set up camp, passing out flyers and requested help and assistance of any kind i.e. horse boarding , adoption, feed, sponsoring , donations,etc. Gratefully, the Equine population of Cattaraugus County responded with over 70 positive responses. A web site is in the process, and to date several horses have been placed.

The Data base is not a rescue site rather a way to connect needy horses with caring new owners.
More horses will be adopted as each month passes. So if you’re looking for a new horse, maybe you want to get back into riding, or maybe you just want to fill that empty stall in your barn, contact HORSE RESOURCE and check out the horses. You could fill a void in your life, and save not only an animal’s life but give some sense of peace to those owners who can no longer afford and care for their animals they love.
