World Harmony Run
Layover in Ellicottville
By Jim Gill (8/8/2008)
Run, run, run, run, run!
World-Harmony-Run
We are the oneness and
fullness of Tomorrow’s Sun.
Short version of World Harmony Theme Song. Composed by Sri Chinmoy 1931-2007;
Founder of the World Harmony Run.
And run they did as they entered Ellicottville early Sunday evening, a highly anticipated layover during the Pittsburg to Buffalo leg of their amazing 10,000 mile, coast-to-coast journey.
Runners from Germany, Austria, San Diego, Hawaii, Australia, Czech Republic, Puerto Rico and the USA left Pittsburg on August 1st and were scheduled to arrive in Buffalo on Monday August 4th. Two of the team members will drop out and three new runners will join for the journey from Buffalo to Albany. Heading northward from Albany, the final leg of their odyssey will take them through the New England states before returning to their starting point New York City on August 15th.
Gathering at the Gazebo each team member introduced themselves and the country they represented, then forming a group they sang the full version of the World Harmony Theme song before some local residents and visitors. Holding the torch on the steps of the Gazebo, Mayor Coolidge welcomed the group to Ellicottville and wished them a safe journey on the rest of the run.
Words promoting the purpose of the global run were unnecessary, the flaming torch that was passed around spoke volumes about World Harmony to the point it raised goose bumps with some of people handling it. As one of the runners explained for some unknown reason this occurs frequently as they pass the torch along the way and during their many stopovers.
As they have done on previous journeys to Ellicottville, following a photo session local resident Annie Widger escorted the team to Gentle Thunder Farms for dinner (vegetarian of course) and a well deserved evening of fun and relaxation in the countryside.
